A Standard Range of Cast Stone Porticos and in Bespoke Designs

At Procter Cast Stone we produce a very high quality range of porticos in standard portico designs, plus we can produce one-off bespoke designs to meet an architect's requirements. All our porticos are manufactured using a new, highly cost-effective and structurally-strong ring beam system.

A cast stone portico from Procter Cast Stone will look every bit as a authentic as one made from natural stone, with the real advantage being the huge cost difference between the two - the cast stone version will of course be cheaper. In addition but related to the last point, a cast stone portico can be manufactured in a fraction of the time a natural stone one can be.

This then gives a total of nine options within our standard range. However, adding in colour to the equation means the options are almost infinite, as long with our nine standard colours we can also create specials if needed.

Other Architectural Features to Use with Porticos

Many of our other cast stone features can be used with porticos for both practical reasons and visual appeal. These features include:

Steps and landing areas built around the portico as part of the entrance
Railings around the top of the portico to create a balcony
Cast stone balustrade around the top to create a balcony

In all cases we would ensure that the final finished job looks as one, with all architectural elements fitting together perfectly and in a consistent colour (whichever one was chosen)

Site Survey and Design Advice

A key aspect of the service we offer is site surveys and design advice. For restoration projects a site survey is normally essential, but in all cases we provide whatever level of advice is necessary. For example, an architect may know exactly the design of the portico they want and therefore it's simply a case of us accurately following the dimensions etc. However, someone running their own self-build project may need much more help and advice and even detailed drawings produced of their portico from an outline sketech - which is no problem at all for us.

Delivery Only or Delivery and Installation

We use our own transport to deliver to site, and part of our service is also to deliver on the exact day as required - which can be important to our customers when a property build is underway and materials have to be available to ensure the project isn't held up.

Installation Service

We can also expertly install the porticos we manufacture, which will typically suit a customer who isn't familiar with the specific techniques needed. In addition, using our installation service can often work out as the more cost-effective option when compared to using general building contractors employed for the larger construction job. Quality Standards

Along with all our other cast stone products, our porticos are manufactured by our experienced craftsmen, in our own factory, and in accordance with BS1217:1997. All porticos produced are thoroughly checked for quality, colour and consistent finish to ensure they meet our exacting standards.

Bespoke Porticos

Bespoke Porticos are a real speciality for us and we're able to create entirely new designs or exactly match old porticos which need replacing on restoration projects. In all cases for a custom portico, we use our ring beam system to ensure a structurally sound and cost-effective solution.

More from Cast Stone Entrance Features

The new construction system we use for our porticos is based on a ring beam made of reinforced concrete and using stainless steel rods. This system has the advantage of reducing cost because each portico is designed using structural calculations that can cater for the weight to be carried - e.g. for a cast stone slab as a balcony and perhaps with a balustrade. This in turn eliminates the need for expensive structural steel work, and that's where the main cost saving comes in.

Using the Standard Portico Element for Other Architectural Features

Our standard porticos elements can be used to create other architectural features such as:

Bandstands (essentially 2 semi-circular porticos back to back)
Collonades (a long sequence of columns joined by a superstructure above them)
Pilasters (half a column fixed to a wall)

Such use of standard portico components to create a different cast stone feature will typically mean a very considerable cost saving versus creating such features as one-offs. And compared to creating such features from natural stone, the cost saving would be almost off the scale.
