  • What is lime bloomefflorescence? This is a temporary natural phenomenon that can occur to a varying extent on all forms of concrete.
  • What methods can be used to clean cast stone? The main methods used are water washing, mechanical cleaning and/or air abrasives.  Read more from Cleaning of Cast Stone.
  • What mortar mix should be used? Dependant upon the exposure conditions; in a severe exposure a 1:1:6 cement : lime:sand mix is recommended and in moderate exposure 1:2:9.
  • In what situation would bed joint reinforcement be used? Reinforcement between units on large stone areas, reducing loadings over openings.
  • What are and can movement joints be incorporated? Movement joints are required in long runs of stone to allow for expansion between different materials and can normally be incorporated without difficulty.
